Textile conservation projects
At the Italian Jewish Art Museum operates a textile conservation workshop, it’s goal is to take care of textile ceremonial objects, such as Torah mantles, Torah binders, Torah Ark covers (Parokhet) etc. These objects were donated by Jewish communities and by individuals, from all over Italy, most of them are hundreds of years old and in need a highly professional conservation care.
Conservation constitutes the totality of operations involved in preserving and treating objects of value in all the realms of art. The work of conservation is highly complex and involves fields of knowledge such as chemistry, structure of matter, physics, history, archeology, art as well as meticulous documentation.
